Veterinary Technician Training Coordinator
Ocean State Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced ECC technician to lead our
technician training team. The OSVS team is made up of a talented yet fun group of veterinary
professionals who genuinely care about their patients and clients. If you have previous experience
as a VTS or have worked primarily in emergency or specialty medicine and are looking for a way to
share your skills and knowledge with junior colleagues – this is an exceptional opportunity. Our

qualified team members. At OSVS, the continued education of our support staff is paramount. Not
only do our techs get to work with the best veterinary team, but we also provide in-hospital
continuing education lectures and labs and many opportunities for cross-training.
Position Overview:
The technician training coordinator's role is to organize and facilitate the learning and development
of the technician assistants and technicians. The coordinator will assess staff members and develop
individualized training plans based on the needs of each staff member and the hospital. The
coordinator will guide the technician trainers to execute the staff training plans. The coordinator will
also conduct advanced training labs for senior technician staff. When able, they will work alongside
the trainees to perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure quality patient care. Technicians
should be proficient in advanced nursing duties including but not limited to patient assessment and
monitoring, phlebotomy, IVC placement, medication/fluid administration, medical calculations,
transfusion medicine, mechanical ventilation, etc. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge
of emergency and critical care and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate training programs and schedules for all aspects of support staff training
• Educate trainees in the classroom, laboratory, and hospital setting
• Provide guidance, support, and feedback to technicians in training as well as to the
training team members
• Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to hospitalized patients utilizing a
variety of technical skills
• Identify and organize outside CE (Continuing Education) opportunities for technician staff
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in veterinary medical technology or equivalent
• VTS preferred but not required
• Excellent communication skills with clients and team members
• Superior technical knowledge and skills
• Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
• Enthusiastic team player with a patient, positive, and professional attitude
• Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the
day
• Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress
in a calm manner
• Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of
quality medicine

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI. OSVS is a 26,000-sf building with a very busy emergency
service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in
Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology,
Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT
scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI. Located in Southern New England, OSVS sees and
treats pets from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
